Final Sale for Fish Pond Tiles

August is the last month that the Whitehall Rotary Club will be selling engraved tiles at the historic fishpond in the center of town. The fishpond project was started in 2003 as the club's centennial project to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Rotary International in 1905. The Whitehall club was chartered in 1934.

What started out as a simple project to replace the broken concrete sidewalk around the pond has turned into a 17-year progressive remodeling of the pond and the surrounding area. The club has added additional grass and a new drive-through access to the back side of the city park, two metal benches, two concrete benches with engraved tiles, a wall with tiles and a short history of the pond as well as an interior pond liner, new protective wire/wood fence around the top of the pond wall, a new canvas top and an improved aeration system for the fish.

Selling the tiles has been a good fundraiser for the club over the years; but, the club has decided to wrap up this part of the project and focus on maintenance of the pond area. Tiles can be engraved with wording up to 30 letters for a 6 by 12-inch space and slightly more for a full 12 by 12-inch tile. Adding artwork affects the total space available for lettering.

All orders and payments need to be delivered to the Rotary club by the end of August. There are blank tiles available for engraving on both benches and the bottom row of the north face of the wall.
