Christmas Stroll cancelled, Pop Up Market planned

The Whitehall Chamber of Commerce’s event plan for the 2020 Christmas Stroll was denied by the Jefferson County Health Board.

Chamber President John Kreis said it was very disappointing news but at the same time, they certainly understand the point of view of the health board.

In the meantime, Kreis and chamber board members have been working hard on community-based events that would not draw a crowd but still emphasize the holiday season.

Among the plans for the holiday season include a Christmas Pop Up Vendor Market that will take place from November 28 to December 12 at the Whitehall Chamber Office.

According to Kreis, local vendors are invited to display their wares, and the hours will be Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to noon and each Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vendors will supply their goods, prices, and inventory sheet. The cost to participate is $25.

“The Chamber will also be accepting food donations for local distribution organizations; it is hoped that local businesses will participate in food donations as well. Any person or business who drops off food and makes a purchase at any of the participating locations is entered into a drawing,” Kreis said. “Of course, all applicable safety precautions are required. Masks are required, social distancing is as well, and hand sanitizers will be available at the Chamber office. The Chamber Coordinator and volunteers will limit in-person attendance, but shoppers are encouraged in a safe steady shopping opportunity. Please support all of our local businesses.”

The chamber will also be focusing on the promotion of Small Business Saturday.

Kreis and board members have talked to vendors and have been told they will move their applications to 2021.

“When this will all be behind us and we can have events as regularly planned,” he said.
