Surviving/Thriving Amid COVID-19: Cottage Floral Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary Amid Pandemic

Cottage Floral, a staple in Whitehall for many years before owner Deb Dulaney decided to close up shop for a bit. However, she's back in the flower game and better than ever, celebrating her one year anniversary of reopening - and during a pandemic at that.

"I opened the week before Valentine's Day last year, just around the corner, but decided in July to move here," Dulaney said of her current location at 113 West Legion Avenue. The new location is bright and cheerful - and filled with gnomes, which seemed to have recently taken the world over!

"They are cute little guys for every occassion," Dulaney said. And she's right - there is a gnome for every occassion in Cottage Floral.

COVID-19 struck shortly after Cottage Floral reopened its doors, making business a bit more challenging than before. Dulaney, who has been a florist in town for nearly 25 years, said that with the pandemic came issues with orders, shipping and receiving, due to a lack of drivers available to keep up with the sudden influx of home and business deliveries.

"I can order things and my vendors will tell me that they just don't have them - they can't get them because of shortages," Dulaney said. So reopening a much-loved business during the pandemic has been tricky, but it's hard to tell when you step into Cottage Floral's doors. Dulaney has a multitude of adorable house decor, fresh flowers and more.

"Thursday I'm getting my Valentine's Day shipments in and there is a lot!" she said.

Blooming plants and roses of all colors and in all quantities will be available, as well as a great assortment of other flowers in case your loved one fancies something other than roses.
