Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: March 3, 2021

We have had a little change of plans for the Flower workshops due to scheduling conflicts. It is now on March 20th and Emily Dickerson from Lewis & Clark Caverns, will be sharing “Flower Pressing and Crafts” at 9:30 a.m. for adults and then a special 11:00 session for children. If you are interested in attending, please call the Library at 287-3763 and let us know so we will have enough supplies for everyone.

I have had a lot of questions from young and old alike about how elected officials accomplish different things. In view of that, the Library will be hosting a series of lectures on how our local, state, and national government works. The topics will include what is the difference between elected officials and appointed posts, how can you run for office, who is currently serving in different offices, how laws are made, the difference between directives, mandates, and other edicts; and more. There will be a variety of different speakers and information sources presented. This is not a political series of programs but a set of informational presentations for those who do not really know how things work or are just curious to gather more information. If you are interested in coming, please call the Library at 287-3763 to sign up as space will be limited.

There will also be a set of computer classes beginning on Tuesdays, March 23 at 2:00 p.m. The first one will be exploring the ins and outs of word processing. The Class will cover the basic functions in the average tool bar as well as take requests from the class on specific functions. To sign up, please call 287-3763 as the class will be limited to ten people. If there is a large interest in the class, then another time slot will be added. Future topics will be creating spread sheets, how to do a computer slide presentation, using different apps, linking your devices, etc.

My question of the week was “If you are a fine-free library, why did I get a $15 fee on my card for overdue materials?” Answer: when something is not returned or renewed for three months it is considered lost. The computer automatically deletes the book from the collection and charges the patron both the cost of replacing the book and a processing fee of $15 per item. The easiest way to avoid these charges is to return the item on time or call to renew it. Items do not have to be brought into the Library to be renewed, as we can do it on the phone anytime during regular hours. You may also renew a book over the phone by leaving us a message after hours. Make sure to include the name of the books as well as your name and phone number.
