Go Ask Jo: 3/17/2021

Dear Jo,

I am not sure how to say this, I guess the best way is just to get it out. I love my horse more than my husband. There it is, in black and white. I want to keep my husband, and of course, my horse. I am feeling guilty and wonder if I need to admit to my husband that if I had to choose, it would be my beloved horse. Is that a terrible thing? Should I come clean and tell my husband? I think he knows, he is often jealous when I head out in the hills without him. Please help me.

Signed, Giddy-up Girl

Dear Giddy-up,

Well, this is a first, at least that someone has been honest about it. I often see riders and their horses together and am amazed at the love and unspoken communication. That being said, I would keep the depth of your feelings to yourself. Your husband need not know that you would choose your equine partner over him! Take the time to make him feel special in other ways. Make his favorite dinner, go dancing, whatever he loves to do. That way he will know he is important to you. It sounds like you are lucky, on both relationships.

Dear Jo,

Do you love rocks? I LOVE rocks. I cannot walk, ride or drive without wanting to grab several specimens to make sure I am not leaving something important behind. It seems like a healthy obsession, right? I get outside, get exercise, am in the fresh air. Why then, do my family and friends say it has gotten out of control? “Why do you need so many?” “Why can’t you work on the ones you have already?” “ What can be so interesting about rocks?” “You know, you are never going to find someone to date if your main interest is in dirt and rocks, right?” These are just a sample of the constant questions from those that don’t understand. Is it too much to ask that those closest to me understand my interest?

Signed, Dirty at heart

Dear Dirty,

Go girl go! If dirt and rocks are what you love, do not let anyone tell you different. I find when we follow a true passion, it often leads us to a place (or person) we were mean to be (or be with). Grab that rock hounding backpack, pick and shovel and get down and dirty! I hope you find everything you are looking for!

Signed, Jo
