Trojan Wrestlers Place Third at Cascade Invitational

Whitehall wrestling opened their season at the Cascade Invitational this past weekend. Out of the 21 teams present, Whitehall earned third place honors.

Of the 13 wrestlers Whitehall had competing, six placed in the top four.

Miles Hoerauf (160 pounds) dominated the tournament by placing first and pinning each of his four opponents. He started with a first-period pin over Townsend, followed by first-period pins over Harlem and Conrad. He continued to overpower in his championship match against Bechtold from Choteau, with a pin at 3:15.

Ivar Radcliffe (120 pounds) and Leo Scafani (light-heavyweight) each earned second place in the tournament. Radcliffe started with a pair of pins, first over Boulder, then over Valier. This put him in the championship match against Mikesell from Boulder. Radcliffe fell just short in this six-minute battle with a final score of 4-5.

Scafani battled first against Choteau with a win 2-0, then with a 4-0 win over Shelby. Scafani's championship match against Crowell from Cascade ended with Cascade's pin in the 3rd period.

Isaac Skogen (103 pounds) started the tournament with a loss to the eventual champion. He recovered and showed his strength with pins over Shelby and Plains. This earned him the 3rd place medal.

Michael Reiff (145 pounds) finished the tournament in 4th. He started with a pin over Arlee, followed by a pin against Three Forks. He lost his semi-final match to Boulder, but followed with a 15-0 technical fall over White Sulfur Springs. The tournament took a toll on a hip injury and he was not able to wrestle his last match, but earned 4th.

Kyle Denny (170 pounds) also placed 4th. This started with a pin over his Conrad opponent, followed by a pin over Shelby. He lost his semi-final match to Townsend, but bounced back to win his next by pin. This placed him in the 3rd/4th place match against Boulder. After the five-minute battle, Denny fell 1-5.
