Between the Stacks: 1/12/2022

It is so nice to see the sun shining after our winter storm. It makes me want to spend as much time as possible outside enjoying the warmer weather. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a chance to do just that as the library and other government agencies will be closed on January 17th for the Monday holiday.

King was a Baptist minister who became a civil rights leader. He led the fight against racial segregation through nonviolent methods until he was assassinated in 1968. The holiday was established in 1983 and was observed three years later. The date was chosen based on King’s birthday, which was January 15th but was included in the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.

This week will be a great week for programs to get everyone out of the house for a little social time and inspirational learning. Starting with a special series of presentations on Hydrotherapy by Judy Schwab on Thursday, January 13 at 6:00 p.m., attendees will learn about the relaxing and healthy benefits of hydrotherapy people can do at home. For more information on this program, contact the front desk. Also, that evening at 6:00 p.m. will be our first Family Game Night of the year. Bring your family and friends for a night of snacks, games, and fun to conquer the winter blues.

Don’t forget to pick up a reading sheet for the Winter Reading Scavenger Hunt. The adventure begins on January 3 and continues until March 31. Participants receive a list of different genres and must read one book in each area to finish. The purpose is to give readers a chance to try out different books that they would not normally read and discover new authors along the way. Reading sheets may be picked up at the front desk.

The library is looking into hosting a virtual Stepping On program to prevent falling in those over 60. If you are interested in attending this seven-week program for yourself or others you are caring for, please contact the library at 1-406-287-3763.

Beginning January 18th at 1:30 p.m. the library will be offering a Beginning Computer Class for adults. If you would like to come, please let us know as space is limited. If more people sign up than we have room for, we will just add another class.
