Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Nicky Hill

Nicholas AKA Nick AKA Nicky Hill flew over the great divide on July 8, 2017 after sucking on to many cancer sticks for 38 years. I feel blessed to be able to write my own obituary.

Nick was born in Whitehall MT on May 20th 1941 to Doctor Robert and Edith Hill at the Hill Hospital.

How grand it was to grow up in Whitehall through my younger years through high school. I even started kindergarten with some of the same kids that I graduated high school with.

I always intended to be friends with as many people as possible get along with everyone, and hopefully no one would get mad at me except maybe my sisters. That probably happened because I can remember being invited in the summer time to many different family picnics just because I was there.

There were lot of high roads, low roads and in between roads and I never made it to the highway.

After graduating high school I graduated from the San Francisco Mortuary Science in 1962. I then went to work for Dugan Merrill Mortuary in Butte MT, which was owned by George Perry with an apprenticeship under Bill Oeygelly and Michael Murphy. In Sept of 1963 I married Pat Whalen from St. Ignatius MT and with her companionship we had 4 wonderful children. Cindy (Glenn) White, Cherie McConnell, Keith (Robbie) Hill, and Churon McCombs. I have 16 of the greatest grandchildren one can imagine and 12 great grandchildren.

In March 1964 I enlisted in the US Navy as a Corpsman go to school in San Diego at Balboa Naval Hospital. Pat had a brother in San Bernardino and she moved in with him, as she was pregnant at the time. That is where Cindy was born. I was then transferred after Corps school to a hospital ship USS Haven in Long Beach California. I served there for a little over a year and then was transferred back to San Diego while there I served out the rest of my term and headed straight back to Montana.

Services have been planned for Monday, July 17 at the Mormon Meeting House on Monad and 36th West in Billings. Viewing starts at 10 a.m. with the service schedule for 11 a.m. A full military honors burial will follow at the National Cemetery in Laurel.
