Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Daines makes a stop in Whitehall

U.S. Senator Steve Daines stopped in Whitehall last Friday morning to spend time visiting with local ranchers.

Among the topics discussed were globally marketing Montana beef, the 2018 Farm Bill, brucellosis, the November General Election, Wildlife Services and the United States Forest Service.

"This is the voice of real Montana. This morning we literally had a sixth generation operation represented here," Daines said. "This is the voice we need to have louder back in Washington D.C. That is the voice I take back to Washington D.C."

The Republican Senator discussed a recent trip to China and the importance of global markets for future generations. Daines was asked about country of origin labeling and responded that if they can tell the story of Montana beef that is something that will resonate with the Chinese.

When asked about the upcoming election, Daines stressed the importance of looking at how people vote and not what they say.

After around 40 minutes at the Borden's Building, Daines left to his next stop in Dillon, one of four planned for the day.

"I travel to each of Montana's 56 counties over the course of every two years. It's important to get to every corner of our state," he said. "Representing the State of Montana you have to represent every part of our state and that is why it is so important that you spend time in a place like here where people are free to express their ideas and talk about whatever their issues are on their mind, so I can here what they think and it helps me to best represent them back in Washington."
