Whitehall plays host to cross country meet

This Saturday will be a huge day for the Whitehall Cross Country team with a home meet scheduled at the rodeo grounds.

According to head coach Kerry Sacry, around 12 teams will be at the meet scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. The meet will feature both middle school and high school competitors from across Southwest Montana.

Senior team member Hunter Flynn said the course is relatively flat, but is mentally challenging figuring out how to pace the race.

The Trojans opened their 2016 season last Saturday in Boulder with three top ten finishes. Flynn was the top finisher for Whitehall finishing in second place with a time of 17:24. On the girl's side, Ann Russell finished in seventh with a time of 24:02, and freshman Madison Loomis placed ninth at 24:11.

Sacry said the meet went as expected. While happy with the team's performance, he said there is plenty of room for improvement for everyone.

Sacry said Flynn ran well, as did both Russell and Loomis.

Others competing for Whitehall included Justin Gipson (21:18), Clancy Russell (21:55), Tyler Lucas (25:19) and Kadin Smith (25:20).
