Ringing Rocks road to undergo repairs

The Bureau of Land Management’s Butte Field Office will temporarily close the route to the Ringing Rocks site starting Oct. 17 as crews make much-needed repairs to the rough, rocky road.

“There is a section of road that has become difficult and potentially hazardous for vehicles and so we plan to perform maintenance on the road now and possibly later in the Spring,” said Brad Colin, Supervisory Outdoor Recreation Planner for the Butte Field Office.

A crew expects to work up to four days on the road leading to the geologic site.

\For public safety reasons, the BLM will close that portion of the road until the work is complete, Colin said.

The popular Ringing Rocks site is located 18 miles east of Butte and north of I-90.

The rocks in this unique geologic area chime when tapped with a hammer.

For more information about the closure, call the Butte Field Office at 406-533-7600.
