Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks

On November 11, 1918 at 11:00 a.m. World War I Allied Supreme Commander Ferdinand Foch met with the German delegation to sign the armistice aboard his railway carriage near Compiegne, France. Although many people think of this event as the end of the First World War, it was initially a 30 day cease-fire agreement which was continually renewed until the formal signing of the peace treaty a year later. In 1954 this day was changed to honor all persons who have served in the armed forces of the United States and is celebrated as Veterans Day. In honor of our veterans, the Library, along with other agencies, will be closed on Friday, November 11.

The Friends of the Library will meet November 14th at 1:00 p.m. at the library. They will be discussing January programming ideas, December events and more. If you are interested in being a friend or a volunteer just stop by the Library for more information.

Computer classes are filling up fast. They will begin in January and continue throughout the year. Because we are using a computer curriculum, the classes will be set according to the needs of those who are following the programming through to their certificates. In other words, the first class will begin and then the next level will be offered for those who have finished the first. More beginning classes will be added as the need arises. If you would like to be a part of the classes just call or drop by the library to register. All classes will be free of charge and taught on our new laptops, provided by a grant from the Jefferson Valley Community Foundation.

Book Club Bingo will meet November 10 at 6:30 and History Changers will meet on November 15 at the same time. History Changers will be discussing the ramifications of the California Gold Rush and Sutter’s Mill. The Adult Watercolor class is taking in new members so come join Butch and his students as they learn the art of watercolor painting. All supplies are provided by the Library so be sure to check it out.

The staff is getting ready for a large materials order so now is the time to put in suggestions for new DVD’s, books, audio books and other things patrons would like to see in the collection. No suggestion is too big or too small to make, although I haven’t won the lottery yet so budget constraints do apply. Everyone has different likes and preferences so the more suggestions, the more the collection will have something for everyone.
