Between the Stacks

I hope everyone has a wonderful few days off for Thanksgiving. The Library will be closed Thursday and Friday this week so the staff may enjoy the holiday with friends and family. Saturday will resume regular hours from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This is new book season in the publishing world and the collection is receiving new works from favorite authors almost every day. I wanted to share some of the new titles which arrived just in this week.

Many popular mystery authors are releasing new works in time for the holidays. Patricia Cornwell has a new Kay Scarpetta novel entitled “Chaos”. Scarpetta and her familiar group of experts take on a cyberbully in this new thriller.

Clive Cussler brings Dirk Pitt back in his latest novel “Odessa Sea”. Plane crashes, lost Romanov treasure, and Ukrainian rebels will keep any adventure fan glued to the pages of this new installment of the Dirk Pitt series.

The Library has also acquired a wonderful donation of history books on the Second World War. Titles include: “Helmet for My Pillow” by Robert Leckie and “Pegasus Bridge” by Stephen E. Ambrose. Other historical works which have just arrived are “Alexander Hamilton” by Ron Chernow, “Romanovs” by Simon Sebag Montefiore, a history from the first Romanov tsar to the murder of Nicholas II and his wife Alexandra.

The children’s collection has also added new titles such as “Jingle” by Gordon Korman about Griffin Bing and his friends. Bing ends up spending Christmas break as a volunteer elf who has a $10 million dollar object stolen on his watch. For Wimpy Kid fans, the newest volume in the set is “Double Down”. Greg Heffley is encouraged to explore his “creative side”, translation: no gaming, and the fun begins.

New arrivals in the Young Adult section include “A Drop of Night” by Stefan Bachmann about a group of young people chosen to explore a buried palace from the French revolution, if they dare. Historical fiction fans may enjoy Cat Winters new novel “The Steep & Thorny Way” a murder mystery involving a ghost and the Ku Klux Klan. Ken Liu’s newest collection, “The Paper Menagerie”, takes a variety of subjects and genres through this fifteen story collection of short works and novellas.

The new December calendars are available at the front desk for those wishing to see all of the holiday programming. The staff is already working on the January schedule as it will be full of computer classes, fly fishing classes and more. Please feel free to call or stop in if you have any questions about the Library or programs, the number is 287-3763.
