Editorial: Community comes together at stroll

A light snow was falling Saturday morning as local residents made their way to the 2016 Christmas Stroll. It was the perfect weather for a wonderful event.

I was able to spend the day covering many of the events and it was nice to see not only a great turnout, but also all of the smiling faces. This is a special time of year and it was good to see the community come together.

The fine arts show returned for the second year, and in a short amount of time has really turned into something special. There are some truly incredible artists who live here, and this is a great way to showcase their work, and to also provide a way to shop local for Christmas.

Both the art show and Christmas market served as a chance to get gift that might be something far different than a present from Wally World or Target.

One of the best parts was seeing all the kids happy with Santa, and also enjoy other kid friendly events. Most importantly, the day concluded with the wreath auction that gives back to the Whitehall Food Pantry and many local non-profit organizations. What are great way to end the day. There were thousands of dollars raised that will benefit this community and that made a great day, something special.

Thanks to everyone who worked hard with the 2016 Christmas Stroll.

I always hear the excuse there is nothing to do. That is really not the case locally. There are a lot of local event. While attendance seemed good, it could always be better. If you haven't made it to a stroll, check it out next year. Have ideas for next year, the chamber could always use some help. A small group of people work really hard to put this together and taking a little pressure off them would not hurt at all.
