Jefferson County Commission Update

Hi Folks,

At our regular meeting last week we reviewed claims and met with Road Supervisor, Rory Parsons in the morning. Snow plowing has been pretty steady this year and as is par for the course, we have had some issues with snow plows. Over all things are going fairly well in the Road Department.

In the afternoon we approved a subdivision amendment for the Cox Creek Minor and Clearwater Estates Subdivisions. These are southwest of Whitehall and the amendment basically consists of a boundary adjustment. We approved Resolution 40-2016 which sets the holidays for 2017. We also decided to increase meal per diem rates for our employees. The rates have been $23.00 per day ($5.00 for breakfast, $6.00 for lunch, and $12.00 for dinner) for as long as anyone can remember. That is what they were in the 1990s when I was Commissioner before. We increased the rates by $3.00 per meal for a total of $32.00 per day.

This weekend we did a joint project with the Town of Whitehall, to clean out some obstructions n Pipestone Creek to alleviate some flooding problems on the south side of Whitehall. Dale Davis came back from out of Town one night to help organize the initial attack. Kory and Scott from the Town helped get everything in place to get the work done. We were able to lower the water a couple of feet and get it away from a few houses.

The Legislature starts this week, so I probably won’t make it to Borden’s on Monday mornings for a while. You are welcome to call me at 406-439-2499 or 406-225-4025. You can also e-mail me at lwortman@jeffersoncounty-mt.gov.
