Whitehall boy's look to shake off loss

The Whitehall High School boy's basketball team will look to get back into the win column Thursday night in Manhattan.

Trojans (12-2, 7-1 5B) will travel to the league foe Tigers Thursday and will return home to host Gardiner Saturday.

Whitehall split two road games last weekend.

The Trojans won a thriller 56-52 Friday night over Big Timber, and fell Saturday 70-56 to Three Forks. It was their first loss since a season opening road contest at Manhattan Christian.

"Two tough games this weekend where we were fortunate to come away with a split. We could have easily dropped both games with the way we played," head coach Zach McLean said.

In the game Friday against the Herders, Whitehall was trailing by one going into the fourth quarter. An Andrew Simon three midway through the quarter gave Whitehall a 48-46 lead they would never surrender.

Braden Larsen led the way with 16 points, Max Feight added 13, Simon and Wyatt Alexander both had 11, Colton Noyes finished with four and Braden Smith had two.

The following night in Three Forks, the Wolves blew open a close game in fourth quarter outscoring Whitehall 26-14 in the final frame.

"They were upset for sure. They know that they flat out got outplayed," McLean said. "They know that their effort level was not there and they were outworked."

Larsen was again the leading scorer with a game high 21 points. Feight had 15, Simon finished with nine, Noyes had six and Alexander had five points.

Looking back at the two games, McLean said his team needs to start playing better with fouls trouble.

"The mental part of the game beat us, our composure and our toughness was not there," he said. "I know personally I can't wait to get back on the floor and compete, and it is starts on Monday in practice.
