Eight Whitehall students and one alternate were chosen to take part in the county spelling bee in Boulder on Feb. 26th. The local spelling bee was held on Feb. 19th with 15 students competing for their chance to advance. Eighth grader Bryan Goles correctly spelled pettish to win himself first-place honors in the local bee. Bryan is the son of Dan and Barbara Goles. Other winners were: Leland McMillian, Meghan Hoopes, Jeremy Fleege, Megan Bowers, Kate Mulligan, Tasha Hippert and Clinton Paquin. Alternate was Rico Patacini.

Jefferson Valley Museum, Inc. signed up its first member last week. Mickey McFadden presented the museum’s president, Doug Shaw, with a check for his membership fee. Shaw said it is the Director’s objective to provide a museum where artifacts, antiques, photographs, archival material, as well as folklore, customs and other historical date related to the Jefferson Valley can be preserved and allow visitors to enjoy.

James Frazer, Keila Cargill and Ben Sorensen, alternate) recently were part of a “Mathcount” team that competed in Butte. Whitehall was the recipient of a third-place trophy for their efforts. The team was under the direction of Bruce Bell.

Tia Kober Elementary students Danielle Dulaney and Dani Edsall share co-author responsibilities for their newly released book “The Mossy, Emerald Green Pond.” The book was written from the frog’s point of view.
