Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

County Commission Update

HI Folks,

At our last couple of meetings, we gave final plat approval for the Phillips Minor Subdivision near Jefferson City and approved an amended plat for Lot 4-A Cox Creek and Lot 4 of the Clearwater Estates Subdivisions near Whitehall. We approved Resolution 10-2017 Calling for a Special Federal Election to replace Ryan Zinke. By having to hold a Poll Election instead of a mail-in election we will spend nearly $20,000 more. We approved a $3,200 expenditure for Event Coordinator Bruce Binkowski to cover the costs of posters and brochures promoting Jefferson County. Included in the request was money to cover the costs of shipping six portable basketball hoops that Bruce got donated to the County. I think the first use of the baskets will be for Frontier Days in Whitehall. We also approved Resolution 11-2017 which declares April to be DUI Awareness Month in Jefferson County.

The Pipestone Bridge on Kountz Road is progressing on schedule. They have assured me that the road will be open by the May 1st deadline.

Work has also started on the Jefferson Slough Modification Project. They hope to have that wrapped up by early June.

The Sugar Beet Row sewer project should start next week. It is possible that could be delayed a week.

The last word I have heard is that the Highway 55 project south of Whitehall will be let to bid in late summer or early fall. Most of the work would probably be done in next year's construction season.

FYI: From Ronald Reagan, "Government is like a baby. An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other."
