Lots of info at garden club meeting

The Garden Club meeting, May 3rd was full of information and news. All members enjoyed the wonderful brunch (prepared by Cathy Hatch and AnnieRose Moran) and then heard about the wonderful hard work from the Whitehall students cleaning up the Memorial Garden and Tower Park, the upcoming State convention, the District meeting (held in Dillon), the hopes for a butterfly garden soon to be developed, how to amend our winter soils in prep for Spring blooms, the sharing of plants brought in by Judy Chadwick and the presentation by Cathy Hatch on "antioxidants." Cathy informed the GC "that the more color a fruit or vegetable has, the more antioxidants available. If you had the opportunity to choose green, red, or black grapes, black grapes should be the choice as they are more antioxidant rich." Antioxidants fight the "free radicals" we have in our bodies due to less than optimum diets, inflammation, age (what??), etc. Not only did we learn about these foods rich in antioxidants, we also were privy to delight in the "taste testing" some of these foods including beets, green teas, black beans, sweet potatoes, carrots, in different sauces, cooked or raw. We were all very happy to "test" these wonderful examples of antioxidant rich foods prepared by Cathy Hatch. Another food filled, I mean information filled meeting! 'Til next month!
