Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Editorial: Plenty to explore at Lewis and Clark Caverns

Every summer thousands of tourists make their way to the Lewis and Clark Caverns outside of Cardwell.

While it's quite the popular destination for visitors, the Caverns are also a great way to spend the day or evening for local residents. Throughout the summer there are numerous programs and presentations, as well as the cave tours where something new can be learned during each trip. During the hotter months of the year the hike to the entrance can be a solid workout followed by relaxing and cooling off during the tour.

The Caverns are a true gem to the area and hopefully are utilized by locals for hiking, biking, and sightseeing.

A few weeks ago the Caverns had a clean up day that included the removal of noxious weeds. Employees spent time with volunteers informing about the different weeds they would be looking for and last week noxious weeds stations were put up throughout the Montana State Park.

As anyone in the area will tell you, noxious weeds can do a great deal of damage, and it's a really positive thing to see the Caverns doing their part to not let them spread on their location, but to inform the public about them. Kudos to everyone that made the stations come to fruition, and look for an upcoming article in the Ledger about them. They will be nothing but a benefit to the park and the local community.

There are always plenty of events to attend during the summer months, but the park is always there for a nice day of listening to music or spending the day exploring.
