Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
Hi Folks,
At our regular meeting last week we were finally able to get all of the various levies in from the Towns and Schools so we could approve Resolution 32-2017, Fixing Tax Levies for FY 17-18. We also approved Resolution 33-2017, Declaring October Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Jefferson County. We encourage all County employees to wear pink on Tuesdays throughout October to show support. We had an appraisal done on a piece of property in Basin and we decided to advertise in the paper for anyone interested in purchasing the property.
We also talked about the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center. As you may be aware, several years ago the Board of Directors for the Hall carried out an extensive search for a community to locate the Hall in. Ultimately they selected Big Timber. Now it seems that location has fallen through. We think the buildings at MDC would be an ideal location for this facility to be located in Jefferson County. We have better public access than Big Timber had. They had I-90. We have I-90 and I-15, as well as being on the main route between Glacier and Yellowstone, and the main North-South route from Canada. We are also fairly centrally located to most of the major population centers in Montana. I don’t think the Board of Directors want to look at anything until after the first of the year. I would like for us to be ready if there is a chance we could bring the Hall to Jefferson County.
FYI: Breast Cancer death rates have dropped by 39% since 1989. This drop is largely attributed to much more awareness and education about Breast Cancer.
