Between the Stacks

The Jefferson Valley Community Foundation has once again selected the Whitehall Community Library to receive a $2,500 grant, this time for new public computers. The Friends of the Library won the Mystery Grant drawing, adding $1,000 to the computer fund. They have also pledged $1,900 for new computers and software! I want to thank the Board of the Jefferson Valley Community Foundation for their continued support of the Library’s technology outreach program, as well as so many others in their organization who work tirelessly to fundraise for non-profit organizations in the Whitehall community.

Speaking of hard workers, the Friends of the Library will be having their next meeting on October 26 at 5:15 p.m. in the basement of the Library. There is lots of planning to be done for the November veterans programming and the December Christmas Stroll. If you would like to come join the fun and be a part of the Friends, please feel free to attend the meeting. There will be much to do in the next two months and everyone is welcome.

This is the last week for Monday Art Camp at 4:00 p.m. The program will resume in November with four weeks of Christmas and holiday crafts to make and share. If you have a child Kindergarten through 5th grade, just call the Library to register. The registration assures us that there will be enough supplies for everyone to make all of the items.

The Mystery Book Club will meet October 24 at 3:15 p.m. at the Library. Everyone will be bringing their latest mystery reads to share with the group. This is a great chance to share favorite authors, meet new friends, and find out what new mysteries are coming out this season.

If you are looking to discover a new hobby, come try the Origami class on Fridays at 3:30 p.m. Keiko and her students spend each week learning this ancient art form and creating beautiful items. There is a display of the current projects on the front desk. If you would like to join the class, just attend any week and supplies are provided.
