Franich art exhibit opens

The historic Boulder Hot Springs has invited local resident Michele Franich to exhibit her art from November 1, 2017 to mid-January next year. An open house reception will take place November 12 from Noon to 2 p.m. in the dining hall.

Franich was first inspired to paint during a brief trip to Mexico after witnessing a street artist create beautiful and complex art, using only spray paint, match book covers and plastic bags. Tough she had no formal training; Michele's art journey began in late 2011, first by following art demonstrations shown on PBS television, engaging other artists, and then testing art media by applying the brush to canvas. Her work consists of landscapes, florals and still life painted in acrylic and watercolor.

In 2015, she approached local artist Kerry Breining Kraha to do an exhibit with her during the Frontier Days celebration. The art exhibit was an unprecedented event in Whitehall. Without knowing how it would be received by the public, both artists were pleasantly happy with the interest that was stirred and the resulting sales for both. There are now two annual exhibits featuring local artists that occur during Whitehall Frontier Days and the Whitehall Christmas Stroll. The most recent Frontier Days Exhibit featured over 30 artists from the Jefferson Valley.

"My future will not be without a paint brush in my hand. Learning to paint has brought me so many hours of relaxation, and it feels therapeutic. I encourage anyone who thinks they may want to try painting, to not hesitate. You'll never know what you are able to do unless you try," Franich said.

THE VENUE

Boulder Hot Springs has been integral over the last few years in the promotion of artists from around the state. Franich said the ability to meet the artist, view the exhibits and discover the wealth of talent that exists "our own back yard" is a win-win situation.

If unable to attend the November 12 event, the exhibit can be viewed seven days a week during business hours. Please note however, the Hot Springs will be closed for Maintenance from November 27 to December 9.
