Whitehall Chamber receives grant from state of Montana

The Whitehall Chamber of Commerce recently received huge news when they were informed of a grant from the state of Montana.

The chamber will receive a $5,720.50 grant from the Office of Tourism and Business Development. According to former Chamber Executive Coordinator Casey Chase, the money will be used for a serious renovation of the Chamber lot located at 501 N Whitehall St.

In the grant application completed by Treasurer Jill Dove, the Chamber discussed the need to enhance the current facility and access to visitor information.

“Currently, access to visitor information is limited to hours of operation at the Chamber. The office is overlooked because there is not enough curb appeal or facilities for tourists,” Dove said in the application.

The money will be used for phase two of an ongoing project at the chamber. The recently completed phase one included a fresh coat of paint and cleaning of the grounds.

“Phase 2 of the project includes a pavilion, picnic table, beautiful landscaping, new decks, siding for a shed, fencing and a new window. The pavilion will provide tourists with 24/7 access to area information. The pavilion will also include a picnic table to give tourists a place to stop and enjoy Whitehall. Beautiful landscaping will help draw the eye to the visitor’s information station and Chamber. The landscaping will include trees, shrubs, decorative rocks and more to grab the eye,” Dove said. “The chamber is ready to do its part in providing a beautiful and comfortable location for tourists to get information about the area, have a picnic, and see what Whitehall has to offer.

The estimated total cost of the project is $9,941 and the estimated completion date is May of 2018.
