Trojans headed to state meet

The Whitehall High School Track team will have a total of 11 student athletes competing at this week's State Track Meet in Laurel.

Stephanie Strong (discus), Alexys Mercer (shot put), Asha Noyes (long jump), Max Feight (110 and 300 hurdles, 4x400 relay), Cade Briggs (long jump, triple jump, javelin), Wyatt Alexander (100 meters), Braden Smith (triple jump, 4x400 relay), Dawson Hoerauf (shot put), Tegan Robbins (high jump), Justin Gipson (4x400 relay) and Steven Japhet (4x400 relay) will all represent the Trojans at the meet that will take place May 25 and 26 at Laurel High School.

The team last competed at the Southern B Divisional Meet in Laurel.

"I thought overall we competed very well at the divisional meet and have a solid group representing Whitehall at the state meet next week in Laurel," head coach Dan Lacey said.

Junior Max Feight had a great day for the Trojans placing third in the 300 hurdles and fifth in the 110 hurdles. Senior Alexys Mercer finished second in the shot put, senior Braden Smith was third in the triple jump, junior Stephanie Strong was third in the discus, and Cade Briggs finished sixth in the javelin.

"This time of year is always bitter sweet because you lose a few athletes each week in post season competition. I am very proud of where this team as a whole has come over the course of the season and feel that the group we have going to state is strong and can represent Whitehall very well," Lacey said. "I'm looking forward to watching our athletes compete and hope they enjoy the experience that they have earned. Making it to state in any sport is a great accomplishment and you get to compete against the best athletes in Class B and that's something to be proud of and excited about."
