After school students give back

Throughout the year, students Whitehall School's 21st Century Community Learning Center's After School Program take part in a variety of worthwhile activities. Last Thursday, the students made a trip the Whitehall Chamber to help beautify the community.

The group of students were helping assist the chamber by getting rid of a large collection of tumble weeds at the building located at 501 N. Whitehall St.

Teahcer Martha Farrand believes it is very rewarding to see the children give back to the community.

"Their eagerness to participate in a project like this shows that, even at a young age, the children are taking pride in their community. They recognize that this project is not only helping people, it is also helping to make Whitehall cleaner," she said.

Chamber Vice President Melissa Jenkins was very appreciative of the work done by the students.

"The chamber has been working hard to improve the appearance of the building and lot, so this really helped out. It's good to see students making their community a better place," she said.

Farrand added another plus for the day was the students being able to work outside.

"The children love being outside. They enjoy it when we can walk to different locations around town. They appreciate the fresh air after being inside much of the day as well," she said.
