LDS Harvest Dinner Friday

It's once again the time of the year for the annual Church of Latter Day Saints Harvest Pantry Dinner.

The popular annual event is scheduled for Friday, November 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church located at 41 Mormon Lane. The meal is a Thanksgiving Dinner with all the trimmings, including a variety of desserts. The suggested donation is $6 per person or $20 for a family. Canned food items will also be accepted, with all proceeds going to the Whitehall Area Food Bank.

ANNUAL EVENT

In researching the history of event last year, volunteer Donna Loomis said the Harvest Dinner dates back to about 1978.

"It is truly wonderful to see members of our community visiting, laughing and sharing a Thanksgiving style meal together," Loomis said.

She also lauded the importance of the event for local residents.

"Events that support our community and provide occasions for fellowship are very important to the sustainment of a strong community. The Harvest Dinner is a great opportunity for community members to come together, share a delicious meal, and support one another," she said. "All monetary donations and nonperishable food items for the dinner prepared by the LDS church members are given to the local food bank providing yet another opportunity to support and sustain members of our community. This is a community event that keeps paying blessings forward."
