Cirucs coming to Whitehall

For the first time since 2013, the circus is coming to Whitehall.

The Culpepper and Merriweather Circus will be in town Friday, June 28 with performances scheduled for 5 and 7:30 p.m. The tent will be located behind the rodeo grounds.

The 90-minute show will feature classic and unique circus acts including trapeze, unicycles, contortion, sword balancing, clowns, performing animals and a concession. The circus treats for sale will include popcorn, cotton candy, peanuts, Coke products, nachos, hotdogs and snow cones.

Whitehall Chamber of Commerce President Melissa Jenkins said this should be a fun day for kids across the area.

"It's great to have an event in the summer where the kids can just be kids. There will also be plenty at the hour and a half show to keep parents happy too," she said.

Local residents can also make a stop by the rodeo grounds at 9:30 a.m. the day of the show to get to see a tour of the circus grounds and tent raising.

Jenkins encouraged those going to the circus to pick up their tickets early before the prices raise the day of the show.

"Be sure to stop by one of our local businesses to get tickets," she said.

Discount advance tickets are for sale in Whitehall at Stageline Pizza, Corner Store, Whitehall Ledger, Chamber office and Chuchos Tacos.

The cost is $12 for adults and $7 for children ages two to 12.

Tickets can also be purchased by calling 1-866-BIG-TOP-6. The price of the tickets at the box office on circus day will be $15 for adults and $18 for children and seniors. The circus box office will open one hour before each show. The midway will also be open at that time.

Weather permitting, the circus will include pony rides, a 22 ft. inflatable slide and a colorful carousel moon bounce.
