Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Robert "Lowell" Nelson

Robert "Lowell" Nelson passed away peacefully Monday, August 26, in Bountiful Utah, following a 10-month battle with Merkel Cell Carcinoma.

While Lowell lived all over the globe, he was born and raised in southwest Montana, and fiercely loved all things Big Sky: fishing, mountains, rivers, lakes, skiing, mining, ranching, and the history of the wild west.

While living in west Africa during the '80's, Lowell's humanitarian aid efforts blessed thousands, attracting international attention and a New York Times article applauding his work.

Lowell was an avid defender of Republican Party political ideals, worked as a lobbyist in D.C., and was always willing to comment on political hot-topics that most of us sky away from.

Lowell had a true entrepreneurial spirit and was always looking for the next big wave or trend to set.

Recently, in an interview with his 12-year-old granddaughter, Lowell was asked to describe himself in three words. He responded: Adventurous, Charitable, and Loyal

Lowell took tremendous pride in his family. He was married twice, had five children, and ten grandchildren.

At the time of his passing, two of Lowell's children (Roland and Meagan) were holding his hands as the chaplain offered a prayer. As the chaplain said amen, Lowell opened his eyes, smiled, took his last breath, and peacefully passed through the doors of death.

A memorial in Lowell's honor will be held in Bountiful on September 14, 2019.
