Tailings project takes step forward

The Golden Sunlight Mine's tailings processing project is one step closer to reality.

According to mine general manager Dan Banghart, Barrick Gold recently approved the mine advancing the project with detailed engineering and preparing for a permit application. He added the engineering will take around six months.

"We'll still need project funding down the road to start any procurement and construction. Everything remains very positive," he said.

At a meeting last month, Golden Sunlight's Steve Lloyd said the TSF 1 project could produce more than 200,000 ounces in 12 years and have around 50 Barrick employees. He added the combined TSF 1 and 2 projects could last around 30 to 32 years.

The mine did have a reduction in force at the end of September, cutting the number of Barrick employees from 49 to 21.
