Whitehall defeats rival Panthers

The Whitehall High School volleyball team picked up arguably their biggest win of the season last Tuesday with a thrilling five set home victory over rival Jefferson High School.

Head coach Kyla Simon said she is so proud of the girls for playing with confidence throughout the match, even when it was tight.

"They are working together and believing in themselves," she said.

The Lady Trojans will face Three Forks at home Thursday and be on the road Saturday at Townsend. Simon said they are both tough teams who are really well coached.

"We are looking forward to the opportunity and hope that we can use it to finish out the regular season on a high note. The girls are still keeping their expectations and intensity level high in practice which I appreciate," she said.

The Thursday night game against Three Forks will be senior night for Whitehall and Simon said she could not have asked for a better group of seniors for her first year as head coach.

"These three young women are just amazing and have made this season so enjoyable," she said.

ASHA NOYES

Simon said Asha Noyes has been the manager in 2019 after suffering a torn ACL last basketball season.

"There are not many things that are harder in sports than being sidelined with an injury when your heart still wants to be out on the court competing. She has been part of practice every day, has taken long bus trips, and has spent a couple of her entire Saturdays with us at tournaments," Simon said. "She has shown her strength and character by not only sticking with our team through her injury, but by doing it with a smile on her face and with 100% support for her teammates. She is recovering from her injury well and I'm looking forward to watching her on the basketball court later this year."

ASHLYNN ELLISON

Simon said Ashlynn Ellison has been enormously committed to volleyball for the last couple of years and deserved to have a great senior season because of the time she has put in.

"She attended open gym all summer and attended camps as well. She has always had an amazing swing from the outside, but this year she has really improved her placement of the ball and her ability to read a defense," Simon said. "I appreciate that she is always asking questions. She has really turned it on these last couple of games and is going into the end of the season and tournaments with a lot of fire. I am excited to watch what she does these next few weeks."

HANNAH TEBAY

Simon said Hannah Tebay has truly been an amazing example of what it means to be a good teammate and sacrifice the "me" for the "we."

"Hannah has been a setter for the last three seasons and loved playing that position. This year she accepted that we needed another outside hitter and has worked hard to become a valuable asset to our team. She not only learned a whole new position, she did it while maintaining a positive attitude and while keeping our energy high during practice and games. She definitely brings a spark for us when she rotates to the front row," she said.

"I have no doubt in my mind that these three are going to go on to do great things. I feel so lucky to have been part of their volleyball career and their high school experience."
