Lady Trojans facing off against Huntley Project

It will be a win or go home game March 4 for the Whitehall High School girls basketball game. The third-seeded Lady Trojans (13-7) will be opening the Southern B Divisional Tournament in Billings with a play-in game against the third seed from the 4B District Huntley Project. The contest is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the MetraPark Arena.

The winner will advance to the double-elimination tournament with a matchup against Colstrip, the top seed from the 3B District.

Whitehall Head Coach Kelly Nieskens likes the way his team matches up with the Red Devils.

"They play physical and rebound well, but I think we will be able to pressure them defensively to cause them problems. They do not look to substitute much so we are really going to look to push the ball up the floor," he said.

In his third year with the program, Nieskens said the Whitehall girls have not been to divisionals in a while so just getting the girls as a team to take in that big tournament atmosphere will get them really excited and ready to go.

The Lady Trojans advanced to Billings with two wins February 22 at the 5B District Tournament in Belgrade. After falling to Three Forks 36-25 in a February 21 semifinal matchup with Three Forks, Whitehall rebounded with wins the following day 56-43 over Townsend and 54-48 over Boulder.

"When you work that hard as the girls had to Saturday just to win and survive -- it showed the girls what strength and capability the girls have when they stick together as a team. Getting them on the road together will help keep them focused and together," Nieskens said.
