Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Our View: Great weekend to attend rodeo, honor talented senior class

Since the middle of March, there have been numerous activities cancelled or postponed due to Covid-19. The start of the high school sports season has also seen very restricted attendance guidelines in Jefferson County.

While it is very unfortunate many family members and students will not be able to cheer on the Trojans, this Saturday and Sunday will give local residents the opportunity to cheer on a very talented group of athletes at the 2020 Whitehall High School and Junior High Rodeo.

The annual event is moving forward with open attendance, organizers are just asking those in attendance to follow social distancing protocols.

This is a perfect opportunity for those that might not be allowed to a football or volleyball game to come out and support what is a great group of local athletes, including five seniors who have set the bar high for the younger kids. In fact, all five members of the senior class (Jacy Johnson, Hannah Haverland, Evan Wagner, Dalaney Scafani and Garris Roberston) have qualified and competed at the National High School Finals Rodeo.

Qualifying for nationals is a huge deal and this senior class is the cream of the crop for Montana High School Rodeo.

In the article on page 1, Lonna Johnson encourages people who might not have been to the annual event to get out to attend. She is exactly right. The rodeo will have a lot of quality competition and will provide people the opportunity for something to do. It’s a win-win to get out of the house and to also see a high-level rodeo.

The Sunday event will also allow a chance to see five seniors recognized for their efforts.
