Trojans, Panthers set for round 2

For the second time in under a month, the Whitehall/Harrison High School football team will square off against rival Jefferson High School.

After having their non-conference seasons cancelled, the two teams decided to meet in their season opener on September 4 in Whitehall (1-2) with the Trojans picking up an 18-6 non-conference victory over the visiting Panthers (1-3).

Whitehall is coming into the game after a 42-0 loss last week to second-ranked Manhattan. Trojans Head Coach Dan Lacey was pleased with the defensive effort of his team against the high-powered Tigers.

"We made them work for points school drive and limited big plays. That was our game plan going in and overall, we did that. Our defense was on the field all night long and going into the fourth quarter we were tired, and you can't blame them," he said.

While happy with the effort of the defense, Lacey needs his team to do a better job of being able to be a balanced offense.

"We need be able to run and throw the ball to keep Boulder (Jefferson High) guessing. When you become one dimensional it's pretty easy to game plan for," he said.

Looking towards round two with the Panthers, Lacey said the team is excited.

"We need to make sure we are efficient in all three phases. If we do that, we will give ourselves a chance to win the game in the fourth quarter," he said.
