Whitehall picks up wins over Three Forks, Big Timber

It was an amazing week for the Whitehall High School volleyball team.

Coming off a week where their lone match was cancelled due to a positive COVID case at Jefferson High School, the Lady Trojans showed no signs of rust picking up a 25-20, 25-22, 25-22 Tuesday win over Three Forks and avenged an earlier season loss with a 25-17, 25-16, 19-25 and 25-20 Thursday victory over Big Timber.

Having practiced two weeks without a game, Head Coach Kyla Simon was proud of how fired up here team came out against Three Forks.

"I know that had to be hard on them because the games are the fun part, the reward for all the hard work. I was proud that they were ready to go and excited to play," she said.

The second-year coach was happy with the way everyone played against the Lady Wolves including Kendra Klapan who had 15 kills and Maxine Hoagland who added 12.

"These two both have a big job and have been really solid for us," Simon said.

Meagan Johnson had 23 digs and Hoagland had 14, and Haley Briggs added 8. Brynna Wolfe added 6 digs, 5 aces, and 30 assists. Simon said Dalaney Scafani and Lindsay Briggs both contributed offensively as well.

Simon was also pleased with the way the team came out against the visiting Lady Herders.

"It was great to meet up with this team again. Our rotation has changed since playing them the first time and I feel like we have progressed our offense and are stronger defensively, so it was nice to test things out a second time. We struggled a bit with our serve receive in the third game, but the girls were able to push through to finish the match," she said.

Klapan had 17 kills in this game and Hoagland had 11. She also had three blocks and 11 digs. Johnson had 27 digs, Scafani had 9 digs, Haley Briggs and Wolfe both added 8, Lindsay Briggs finished with 7, and Charity Nieskens chipped in 6. a Wolfe ran the offense with 32 assists. Simon added Scafani served well with four aces.

Whitehall will next be in action on October 8 at Manhattan.
