Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Steven Lyle Dorvall, 64

Steve was born on November 11th, 1956 in Livingston, MT. He was the third child of six, born to Bill and Gen. They moved around quite a bit as a family, living near Mammoth and Livingston before settling in Whitehall. The family spent most of their time riding horses, farming and ranching, working on cars, and playing music together. Steve graduated from Whitehall High School in 1976. He married Wanda in 1978 and they spent nine years together. During that time, they welcomed two children, Jerad and Jenica.

In 1989, Steve met Laurie Wallace in Pony, MT while playing with his band. She bought him a couple drinks and the rest was history. They got married in 1994 and later bought property west of Whitehall. They spent many years improving the property and building his beloved shop. Steve enjoyed working on many different projects. He especially cherished those he was able to complete with his son and daughter. It didn't matter if it was fixing cars and equipment or woodworking, he was always happy spending time with the kids. He was always the first person to jump in and offer his assistance if anybody needed help. Helping people brought him great joy and added meaning to his life.

Steve dedicated most of his life to work. He utilized his mechanical skills working in various positions over the years to constantly provide for his family. Anybody who worked with Steve, whether it was at the sawmill, in a production facility, at the gold mine in Whitehall, or the concrete plant in Trident, knew that he would always be there early, with a smile on his face, and ready to work hard. Steve thoroughly enjoyed the comradery he always had with his co-workers.

Music was one of Steve's first loves in life. It didn't matter where he was or what he was doing, you could always guarantee he would be playing some tunes! Music always came easy to him. He played in a few bands over the years with friends, where he was the drummer. Steve also enjoyed playing the guitar and keyboard.

Steve was crazy about old cars, especially muscle cars. He owned a 1966 Dodge Charger, a 1963 Manx Dune Buggy, a 1956 Ford Customline, and a 1955 International Dump Truck which he restored. He also collected 18 scale diecast cars over the years and accumulated a large variety of cars and trucks in his substantial collection.

He also enjoyed many outdoor activities with his family. He loved camping, boating, fishing, riding 4-wheelers, and snowmobiles. Steve and Laurie spent a lot of their free time at the Ruby Reservoir and Laurie's family cabin outside of Deer Lodge. These times together with his family, Steve cherished the most.

Everyone who knew Steve will always remember him for his loyalty, generosity, integrity, kind heart and his warm smiling face. Steve was loved dearly and we will always appreciate how he loved us all unconditionally.

Steve Dorvall is survived by his wife, Laurie, son Jerad, daughter Jenica, stepson Michael, stepdaughter Jennifer (Cliff).
