It is book club week at the Library next week. Due to the way the February calendar fell, all three book clubs will meet the week of February 22-26. The History Book Club starts us off on February 22 at 6:30 p.m. They will be sharing a reader’s choice this month on any fiction or non-fiction book dealing with a person or period in history. On Tuesday, February 23rd the Mystery Book Club will be sharing their latest reads at 5:00 p.m. The Holocaust Discussion Group will meet on Thursday, February 25th at 6:00 p.m. They will be sharing different accounts of survivors this month, both historical fiction novels as well as true stories. All clubs are open to the public and anyone is welcome to join at any time.

This week I wanted to share some of the many new middle reader books we have entered in the collection. Elementary school mysteries and fantasy books are very popular right now and there are some great stories out there!

Mysteries based on real people or famous character take-offs have entered the genre with two great new series. Dianne K. Salerni has written a story based on Eleanor and Alice Roosevelt, two cousins who really don’t care for each other. They join forces when ghosts invade their lives and the mystery begins in “Eleanor, Alice, and the Roosevelt Ghosts”. The Aggie Morton series by Marthe Jocelyn joins young Aggie Morton and her new friend Hector Perot in solving a murder at the turn of the century. “Aggie Morton Mystery Queen, in The Body Under the Piano” is a great tongue and cheek mystery which any Agatha Christie fan will love. Readers will have a hard time waiting for the next installments of both books.

Janet Fox has created a magical world in World War II Prague in “The Artifact Hunters”. The main character headed to a secret center to help gifted children harness their special powers to help the allies win the war, as well as solving the key to a powerful pendant. Mystery and fantasy fans will love this one. B. B. Alston takes readers to the world of “Amari and the Night Brothers”. In a search for her missing brother, Amari discovers that magic is real and there is a Bureau of Supernatural Affairs she must get into to track down her missing sibling. This is a great book for those who love suspense, magic, and exciting reads.

To discover these books and more, check out the Children’s Section of the Library. The new books are always on display atop the book shelves, as well showing up on display in the actual shelves.
