Interesting things always seem to find their way into the Library! Someone has turned in a 1938 Recreational Equipment Inc. Cooperative pin into us. If this belongs to you, just stop by the front desk, give us a quick description and claim this lovely memento.

Deanna Mydland from PBS has left the Library 50 children’s game kits to give out. All you need to do is stop by and fill out a five-minute survey and claim this bag full of fun. This is a chance for parents of preschoolers through elementary age children to test a series of games for PBS. The games and bag are yours to keep just for playing the games and filling out the surveys (before & after).

Our Flower Pressing workshops with Emily Dickerson have moved to March 20th. The adult workshop will be at 9:30 a.m. and the children’s craft class with flowers will be at 11:00 a.m. All materials will be provided so we ask that you call in to reserve your spot.

With all the emphasis on computers and virtual meetings, learning, and communication; the Library will be offering a class on word processing programs on March 23rd at 2:00 p.m. The class will focus on practical uses and the functions on the toolbar. This class will be limited as patrons may use our laptops or bring their own. To sign up, please call us at 287-3763.

In April, the Library will be hosting a series of presentations entitled “Government 101”. The series will be every Wednesday evening in April and the first week of May at 6:30 p.m. Each program will focus on an aspect of city and county government by the people who hold those positions. Speakers will be giving listeners a tour of what each department does, how it functions, and who to contact for help when someone has a problem.

Speakers will include Bonnie Ramey (Clerk & Recorder), her office does the actual physical work for an election; Commissioner Leonard Wartman (County Commissioner), explaining what the commissioners are responsible for and how their office works; Terri Kunz (County Treasurer), discussing how and where money is collected and distributed; and Mary Janacaro-Hensleigh (Mayor of Whitehall), presenting the functions and offices of city government. They will be answering questions from the audience on how their area of government is setup as well as sharing their own experiences with elections, government functions, and inter-agency interactions. The audience is asked to bring questions they may have and enjoy meeting the people who serve Jefferson County. Each speaker will have a different week so watch for the calendar at the end of March.
