Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 4/21/2021

I had some fantastic news this week! The Whitehall Community Library has been chosen as one of five libraries to participate in the Entrepreneurial Support in the Library Small Cohort! This means that the Library will become a resource center for area businesses as well as those who are thinking about beginning a business of their own. I will take five weeks of classes to learn and understand the materials we will be providing to the community, as well as online discussions with the Montana State Library and Accelerate Montana Rural Innovation Initiative. This is part of the Montana State Library’s “Montana Libraries SPARK: Economic Development Initiative which will continue to provide training and information on business topics.

This week we continue our Government 101 series on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. with Jefferson County Treasurer, Terri Kunz. She will be discussing the different financial areas her department covers as well as the ins and outs of how funding is collected and distributed. Next week we will host both the Library Board and the Friends of the Library Board. These have been a great chance to learn about how Jefferson County actually functions and meet the people who work so hard keep the county running smoothly.

The Holocaust Discussion group will meet on April 22 at 6:00 p.m. This group is learning about the different aspects of the Holocaust period from 1932-1945. Members read an account of the period, either fiction or non-fiction, and learn about different situations in various countries. This month they will be exploring the Holocaust in France.

Next week the History Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. The topic this month is great leaders and participants are asked to read a biography of any world leader for the discussion. This book club is open to anyone who would like to join and historical subjects and time periods vary every month.

The Library hours are Mondays and Wednesdays 9 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Fridays 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Calendars of Library programs are available at the front desk.
