Monday Sickness Creates Havoc

As a new business owner with no employees in office, I had always wondered what would happen should I fall sick on a Monday or Tuesday when the paper needed to get out to the printers. And this week I, unfortunately, found out.

Monday morning my son and I woke up with terrible stomach pains and nausea. I called him in sick to school, where I found out there was a significant stomach bug going around. We also had had some suspect chicken the night before, but that hadn’t affected my husband. Stomach bug, food poisoning - whatever it was, it was no good. But I tucked my kiddo back into bed and headed to the office because, sorry, I can’t be sick.

Well, my body had other ideas for me. I waded through several waves of nausea as I took phone calls, conference calls, and tried to lay the paper out. At about two in the afternoon I locked the office up, hoping to ward off any visitors to this illness, and get the paper out. But again, my body had other ideas as I fell victim to visiting my bathroom several times. Eventually I gave up. I went home, crawled into bed and prayed I’d live through the nausea to see another day.

I woke up Tuesday morning, alive, and with a newfound respect for all business owners who get up and push themselves to get through the day, no matter what. I know owners who suffer through daily pain, back issues, fibromyalgia, Crohn’s Disease and more. While I’m thankful my little bout was only 24 hours, I salute those who make it to work every day, regardless of how their feeling, in order to serve our community.

And on a newspaper note, I apologize ahead of time for any misspellings or errors in this week’s issue! While I tried to go through it as thoroughly as possible, when the deadline for print came, it had to be sent in! I’m just thankful there is a paper at all this week, seeing as I thought I would still be living in my bathroom as of Monday evening!
