Although Whitehall may not be on the center of the map when it comes to cultural affairs, a stop in Whitehall is on the agenda for a nationally recognized string quartet. The National Symphony Orchestra will send a string quartet to Whitehall Sat., May 11, for a noon concert. The chamber concert, part of the American Residences Tour of Montana and Wyoming and one of hundreds of outreach activities the NSO will perform around the state, is free to the public. The NSO presents outreach activities around residency states in an effort to reach rural audiences who rarely get a chance to see a world-class orchestra perform. The concert in Whitehall is an opportunity for both students and adults to experience live classical music played on an international scale. The performers will feature two double basses, viola and violin.

A soft roadbed on the Dunn Canyon Road (Forest Road 510) has led the Forest Service temporarily to close the road to prevent traffic from damaging it. This route is the main road into the Bull Mountain Range, and goes west from State Highway 69, 20 miles northeast of Whitehall. Officials expect the road will stay closed until the weather changes and the road has a chance to dry out.
