Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 5/19/2021

We have begun the countdown to Summer Reading! The program begins June 7th and continues until July 31st. It is for all ages and there are prizes, special programs, new books to read, and more. The theme this year is “Tails and Tales” so there will be lots of outdoor themed programming for all ages. We are also happy to announce “Sweet Tea Tales” is back on the calendar for June 10th at 3:00 p.m. This is a great chance for all of our amateur chefs to bring their favorite summer cooler recipes to be tasted and judged for prizes.

May 31st is Memorial Day and the Library will be closed. We will be open regular hours the rest of the week so there is plenty of time to snag books and movies.

I want to congratulate Lorie Steerman and the Friends of the Whitehall Community Library for receiving a $1,000 grant from our friends at Town Pump. This special grant was given to libraries in Montana and other states to help with the costs of summer reading programs. Lorie attended the grant writing class at the Library. She also wrote the successful grant to TIFF which resulted in the acquisition of two beautiful benches for the Library. These benches will be placed outside this summer along with some new landscaping. The Friends are very active and would love new faces. If you would like to find out what the Friends are all about, their next meeting is May 20th at 5:15 p.m. at the Library.

The Paint-By-Numbers class will begin on June 7th at 5:30 p.m. This class is for adults and teens who would like to paint but don’t necessarily want to draw. The kits are provided by the Library and 16” x 20” in size so will take most of the summer to complete. Registration is limited to 15 people due to space and is filling up fast. If you would like to join this group, please contact the Library at 287-3763 to sign up.

Question of the week: How do you get such a variety of programming at the Library? The answer: we have an incredibly large amount of talented people in the Whitehall area who are willing to come and share their talents and experiences. If you have a hobby, talent, experience or ability you would like to share with others, or just an idea for a program you would like to see happen at the Library, please stop by and talk to me. The hiking series we are doing on Wednesday nights came about when one of our patrons shared an interest in local hiking locations. We are always looking for new ways to educate and entertain our patrons.
