Go Ask Jo: 6/2/2021

Dear Jo,

What is it that makes people think going ANYWHERE outside their homes in their pajamas is a good idea? Is it such a hardship to simply put on a pair of pants and a shirt to leave your home? Also, now that the weather is warm, people are going out in skimpy clothing, which is not usually something that bothers me. But, when I (along with everyone else) can see more of them than we need to (ie...hiney parts, chest parts, ect.) it seems like people might want to take more pride in how they appear. Am I old, a prude, or justified in my opinion? Help!

Pants Preferred

Dear Pants,

Me, myself and I agree! I cannot imagine going out of the house without looking like I have combed my hair, cleaned up a bit, and put on non-revealing, cover-the-right-areas clothing. With that said, we may agree, but it seems as though some people really are comfortable doing “their thing,” not worrying about others perceptions. Part of me admires that. The fact that they are oblivious to negative opinions about what others think, I love that. I guess my only advice is, being as there is nothing you can do about it anyway, let it go, let it go, let it go.

Dear Jo,

Where to start? I am bad at finances...really! I know I need to get it under control. I have had the opportunity to get ahead several times in my life and have messed it up by misusing my money. At my age of 53, I wonder if it is too late to learn finances and get myself under control? Any suggestions?

No Money Sense

Dear Money Sense,

You can do this! The fact that you recognize the problem is the first step. Take the time to learn about budgets. Take a class, use Google, do something with a friend, whatever it is that makes it easier or more fun. I rely on several ways to try to do better with finances. My sisters are better at the money thing than I am, so I often ask them for advice. Also, I love taking classes. I need to take a couple myself, now that I am writing this. We both will feel better when we take the steps to take control of our own finances! Please write back when (and I know you will) you get some good financial advice and learning under your belt. After all, no one wants to be eating cat food when they retire Now get going!

Signed, Jo
