Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

JUNE 6, 1996

Montana may be the “Last of the Big Time Splendors” and Butte may be the “Can-Do City” but how does one identify Jefferson County? That’s exactly the question people often ask, according to the Jefferson County Economic Development Task Force. And that’s exactly the question the group hopes to answer through the “Jefferson County Official Slogan Contest.” The purpose of the contest is to develop a slogan line that identifies a common, unique characteristic about Jefferson County in order to promote the county for tourism and business development. The slogan line will then be incorporated into a Jefferson County logo (graphic identification) and used for stationery, signs, promotional items and other applications. Judging will be done by the Economic Development Task Force with the help of an artist, a member of the press and a representative of Travel Montana.

Does your tyke need a long walk to get rid of energy? Maybe you need some fresh air and exercise. The Montana Wilderness Assoc. may have just the thing for you. Members of the association have organized their 34th annual Wilderness Walks program and are now distributing the brochure of outings. Several of those outings will take place in the nearby mountains of the Tobacco Root and Madison ranges.

Locally, a “Tyke Hike in the Roots” is planned for Saturday, June 8, in the Tobacco Roots. Children ages 6-10, in the company of a grown-up, can spend the day on the trail learning about life in meadows and forests, how to read maps, and wilderness protection.
