Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

It’s county fair and rodeo time, with plenty of excitement offered in every direction. The Madison County Fair and Rodeo kicks off in Twin Bridges this Thursday, Aug. 15, and runs through Sunday. Then the Jefferson County Fair and Rodeo starts in Boulder Thursday, Aug. 22, and runs through Sunday the 25th. Each event offers four days of music, rodeo action, parades, exhibits and activities for the entire family.

A program designed to teach Jefferson County youngsters how to resist using illegal drugs will be expanding this fall. The Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program has been active in Jefferson County since 1989, when current Undersheriff Tim Campbell began working with students in the fifth and sixth grades on ways to avoid peer pressure, understanding persuasive techniques and other issues. One year later, Deputy Jeri Goodwin became the second DARE officer in the county. In recent school years, with Campbell as the program administrator, Goodwin has been traveling around the county teaching the DARE curriculum. On June 28, Deputy Timm Goettel completed a two week DARE officer training program at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy to join Goodwin as a DARE instructor. The addition of Goettel to the program will allow an expansion to include 8th graders in a new curriculum, Campbell said.
