MTDOT Finishes Construction on I-15/I-90 Interchange Ramps

Just in time for holiday travel, the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Jim Gilman Excavating are excited to announce the formal completion of construction on the I-15/I-90 Interchange Project outside Butte. The roadway is open with fresh pavement, LED lighting, and guardrail improvements.

Work on I-15 and I-90 in Butte was part of MDT’s efforts for Pavement Preservation, which ensures good roads remain good, as roads in bad shape require a lot more money, time, and resources to fix.

“With harsh winters and heavy traffic in the summer, I 15 and I 90 in Butte take a beating, and these road surfaces haven’t been improved since 2009,” said Jeff Harrison, MDT project manager. “The completion of this construction project will ensure the traveling public has a nice, new road to drive on, and the installation of new guardrails will help keep them safe.”

MDT thanks the traveling public for its patience during this project. With winter approaching, MDT reminds motorists of its winter driving safety checklist:

1. Allow extra time to get to your destination.

2. Keep windows, mirrors, and lights clear of snow and ice.

3. Turn off cruise control.

4. Always buckle up.

5. Slow down in poor visibility conditions.

6. Maintain a safe distance behind other vehicles.

7. Expect ice on bridges and in shady spots.

8. Don’t pass snowplows unless it’s necessary.
