Trojan Wrestlers Travel To CMR Holiday Classic

Whitehall Wrestling traveled to Great Falls to take part in the CMR Holiday Classic. This was the premier tournament in the state over the weekend with 61 teams attending, including most of the class AA, A and many of the B/C schools. Whitehall placed 20th out of this field.

Friday consisted of a lot of wrestling, working through the double elimination tournament; making it into the second day is a major accomplishment. This was acheived by Gavin Watson (132), Miles Hoerauf (160), and Leo Scafani (HWT).

Watson finished the tournament 3-2 with wins over wrestlers from Anaconda, Browning and Havre. Hoerauf earned the 5th place medal with an 8-2 record. He had wins over wrestlers from Circle, Great Falls High, Conrad, Browning, Fairfield, Great Falls CMR, Thompson Falls and Cut Bank. Scafani earned the 6th place medal with a 4-3 record. He garnered wins over wrestlers from Malta, Great Falls, Gallatin and Bozeman.

Others to wrestle were Isaac Skogen (113) 1-2 with a win over Miles City; Ivar Radcliffe (120) 2-2 with wins over Great Falls CMR and Anaconda; Cody Fuller (126) 2-2 with wins over Anaconda and Valier; Dane Hoover (138) 0-2; Kyle Denny (170) 1-2 with a win over Butte; and Karson Klapan (182) 0-2.

Those who lost out of the tournament on Friday, traveled across town to Great Falls High School to compete in a JV tournament. While team scores weren’t kept, the Trojans did well.

Denny won his bracket and came home with the first place medal; he had wins over wrestlers from Columbia Falls, Lewistown and Gallatin.

Radcliffe earned the third place medal with wins over wrestlers from Bozeman, Butte, Belgrade and Great Falls CMR.

Others competing were Fuller and Skogen with wins over Missoula Sentinel, Belgrade and Boulder; Hoover with wins over Thompson Falls and Missoula Hellgate; Wesley Biggers with a win over Havre; Klapan with a win over Belgrade; and Ethen Wock with a win over Great Falls.

The Trojans also took on Anaconda on Tuesday, December 21. The team is off this weekend for Christmas and will return January 4, 2022 hosting Townsend at the Harrison Gym.
