Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 1/26/2022

This week is full of programs dealing with history. On Thursday, January 27, at 6 PM, the Holocaust Project will be open to the public for a very special program. The child of two survivors will share the story of her family as they immigrated to safety, were taken to the camps, and the effects of the Holocaust on future generations.

Next Monday, January 31, at 6 PM the History Book Club will meet. This month was the reader’s choice and everyone selected a book about any historical period they were interested in. There are so many different time periods, personalities, cultures, and events that the members will never run out of interesting things to read. If you would like to join the group, please come and be a part of the discussion.

I talked to a patron this last week who was distressed that someone had decided to edit one of our young adult books and cut four pages out of the middle of a chapter. It is always hard when this happens as the book is very popular and instead of buying a new book, the money will go to replace the one which was vandalized. If someone has a concern about a book, there are proper channels to follow when filing a concern. The library covers a wide readership range, and everyone likes different genres and subjects. we take that into consideration when ordering new materials so everyone may discover the right book for them to take home and enjoy. If you have a concern about something in the library, please stop by and talk to Jeannie Ferriss.

You may notice some great new chairs under the computers. Our Friends of the Library graciously donated the money to purchase two sets of new chairs for the library. The old cloth polka-dotted chairs were practically impossible for us to keep clean with COVID and other illnesses going around. Our new chairs are hard plastic and wood easy to sanitize several times a day. They will also resist spills, mud, and other things that appear when children use them. The Friends also provided funding for new folding chairs. These will come into use as our programs expand and more upstairs seating is needed. They are far easier to transport than the larger chairs and can be cleaned quickly after the programs. Thank you, Friends!

February calendars will be out this week; watch for more new events at the library.
