The search for a new school superintendent continues as Bill Barringer, current Whitehall school superintendent, is retiring after 11 years. The top three characteristics Whitehall residents want in the new superintendent are leadership, a belief in good student discipline practices, and the capability of good professional judgment when applying school policies. The Board will review applications and is expected to make a final decision in the spring with the new superintendent beginning on July 1.

Sherry and John C. Cargill are working toward opening their new venture: a three-story, 5 bedroom, 3 bath resort for a bed and breakfast to be ready for guests in March. They are naming their new place the “Iron Wheel Ranch” and plan to enrich the local history and the lives of children. They are working to promote outdoor recreation in Montana.

With funds raised outside the school district funds and community donated labor the “old gym” at the Whitehall school complex has undergone a series of recent improvements.

Kurt Larsen was selected to represent Montana at the 9th Annual Down Under Bowl in Australia this summer. He was selected along with other players throughout the state because of his outstanding achievements this year.

Trojan Educator of the Week was Susie Tilton-Chiovaro, Whitehall French and English teacher. She is hailed as “an excellent” teacher who is both liked and respected by her students. Mrs. Tilton-Chiovaro is the mother of three sons, Nathan, Joe, and Tony.

Trojan Student of the Week was Chris Alley. Chris, a sophomore, was nominated by Mr. Kelly, history teacher, for being an outstanding history student and part of the PAD World History class. Chris is the son of Jeff and Leslie Alley and enjoys hunting, fishing, and sports.

Trojan Athletes of the Week were volleyball standouts, Keli Mabbott and Heather Smith. Keli, a senior, and Heather, a junior, have played “outstanding” and demonstrated strong leadership this season. Both Keli and Heather plan to attend college and are active in sports and band.
