Whitehall Country Store Reopening March 4

The Whitehall Country Store, formerly known as the Ladies Auxiliary, has been a cornerstone of financial assistance for our Town for many years. Since 1972, the year of inception, it has provided $534,550 in grants and scholarships to many of the organizations charged with providing services for the citizens residing here. Ambulances, local transportation, volunteer fire equipment, senior meals, museum renovations, swimming pool upkeep, and scholarships for deserving graduates of Whitehall High School desiring higher education to name a few. The ability to provide this is not a small task. Not only is it the volunteers who painstakingly rummage through bags of donations to display the merchandise to sell; it’s the community of people who give their excess to the Store. It’s the people who come in and hand a $10 bill to the clerk for a $1 item and say “keep the change.” This is the heart that continues to drive the success of our Store.

The Whitehall Country Store was designated a non-profit, tax-exempt organization in 2014. Although originally formed years before to provide medical equipment, the Board of Directors, at its formation, expanded its purpose to encompass other needs in our community. “The hours we spend at the store are not rewarded by a paycheck. Our reward is in seeing the needs of our community met when no other funding sources exist,” said Laurie Dorvall, Board president. “Each time we write a check and present it to fulfill a need, we are paid back in satisfaction of a job well done by a team of volunteers who desire to see our Town thrive.”

If giving back to our community sounds inviting to you, we encourage you to apply as a volunteer at the Store. Applications are available at the Store on Friday and Saturday from 1 pm – 4 pm. We will be reopening on March 4. You may also contact Laurie Dorvall at (406) 490-2589 to obtain an application form.

A big thank you to all those who have given their time, their donations, and shopped at the Store. This is what gives us the ability to continue our generosity to others. We invite you to be a part of our mission.
